CAUSES OF STUDENTS POOR PERFORMANCE IN BOOK KEEPING AND ACCOUNTING; A FOCUS ON IKERE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

This study investigated causes of students Poor performance in book keeping and Accounting in College of Education, Ikere Ekiti the study examined whether teachers’ commitment to teaching, work habit, teachers’ qualification, the use of instructional material, peer groups, parental involvement and so on contribute to poor performance of students in book keeping and accounting. In view of these, four research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. This study was a descriptive research of survey type. 50 students were selected for the study using simple random sampling technique. A well structured questionnaire was used for data collection and the data were analyzed using percentage while Pearson correlation coefficient at 0.05 level of significance was use to analyzed the hypothesis generated for the study. The study revealed that among others that Lack of commitment on the part teacher, poor working habit, poor attitude of teachers, lack of punctuality in class works among others are revealed in the study as teachers’ factors responsible for students poor performance in book keeping and accounting in college of education, Ikere-Ekiti..
