Background to the study

Poor academic performance of students had been a matter of concern to Nigerian education. it is accepted that individuals differ in potentialities and abilities. The improvement of Nigeria school children contains series of actors which can affect the scholastic achievements.

The leaners’ performance is partly as a result of environment in which one grows up. Another factors is the mental value and e encouragement research has shown that the subjective measure of the attitude and aspiration of parents are more important that the objective measure of material environment by itself (Adigin, 2000).

Furthermore, student from high socio-economic background live in a better and conducive environment than those from low socio-economic background. They are spurred to higher academic attainment than those from low socio-economic background.
