AN APPRAISAL OF FAILURE OF POWER SECTOR IN NIGERIA.
(A CASE STUDY OF POWER HOLDING COMPANY OF NIGERIA)
The focus of this research work is basically on an appraisal of failure of power sector in Nigeria. It is aimed at finding out the problems that has crippled the affairs of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) which has led the power sector of Nigeria into an imbroglio.
The researcher gathered data from primary and secondary sources. While the primary source makes use of both questionnaires and interviews, secondary data were obtained through websites. Data were analysed through chi-square technique.
It was found out that the power holding company of Nigeria (PHCN) has faced various challenges from both the external and internal environment. The political forces are being analyzed chronologically. It also found that low moral on staff welfare is a catalyst to outright misappropriation of fund in PHCN.
In conclusion, the Federal Government as a whole and every single department within PHCN has contributed to the failure of the power sector in Nigeria.
Thus, Government must take steps to strengthen the campaign against corruption. Actors in the campaign against corruption must be men of integrity, honesty, accountability and transparency.
