Abstract

This study investigated the attitude of secondary school students towards the teaching of sex education in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The sample seize used for this study consisted of randomly sampled of three hundred respondents drawn from all public secondary schools in Ikere Local Government area of Ekiti State. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts and simple percentage was used to analyze the demographic data while, inferential statistics of Chi-Square (x2) was used to test the hypotheses set for the study. Data were collected from the study through a questionnaire designed by the researcher, the responses were analyzed using Chi-Square of data. Result showed that there was significant differences in the attitude of male and female secondary school students towards the teaching of sex education, the study also revealed that, the respondent show interest in sex education to form part of school curriculum. It was recommended that, government should provide adequate standard textbook and materials for the teaching of sex education, sex education should be subjects on its own, and more information should be made available to educate secondary school students in Ikere local government area of Ekiti State on what sex education is. This should be done through the use of mass media, religion organization and seminars.
