DETERMINANTS OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES IN NIGERIA SECONDARY SCHOOL

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research work was mainly to find out the factors relating to examination malpractices among Nigeria secondary school students with particular emphasis on Efon Alaaye Local Government Area of Ekiti State. A total sample of one hundred and twenty students were randomly selected from six secondary schools in the local government comprising of students in senior classes in S.S.S. I and S.S.S. 2. The instrument used was questionnaire which was constructed by the researcher and moderated by my supervisor, simple percentage was used to analyzed collected form the field. The result of the findings shows that there were 20 students from girls schools, while there were 100 students from mixed (Boys and Girls) schools. The findings analyzed that, teachers attitude does not influence examination malpractices, and that peer groups do influence examination malpractices to the Nigeria secondary schools. Therefore to recommend this findings, the parents and teachers should monitor the student wisely, so as to prevent examination malpractices, paper qualification should be emphasized, therefore, emphasis should be focused on the applicants prospective productivity and that government should be able to provide necessary educational instruments to the various secondary schools, and also that any student caught should be seriously dealt with to serve as determent to others, the examiner bodies should make necessary efforts to closer rank to ensure that examination papers do not leak from officers.
