IMPACT OF EDUCATION FACILITIES AND PUPILS PERFORMANCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between educational facilities and pupils performance in primary schools in Ekiti State. The variable examined were physical facilities and pupils performance, school environment and pupils performance, school environment and pupils performance and cordial relationship of teachers and pupils performance in the primary schools in Ikere Local Government of Ekiti State. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study, population constituted the entire staff and pupils in primary schools in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State from which respondents were randomly selected. Self constructed questionnaire approved by the researcher’s supervisor was used for data collection. Retrieved questionnaires were collected and simple percentage and chi-square (x2) statistic were used for data analysis. Hypothesis were accepted or rejected at a significant level of 0.05. The finding revealed that there is significant relationship between the staffing quota and students performance in the primary schools in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State there is significant relationship between the survey of physical facilities and pupils performances in the primary schools in Ikere Area of Ekiti State. There is cordial significant relationship between the teachers and pupils performance in primary schools.

INTRODUCTION
Background to the Study
With the recent trends in Educational Development in Nigeria one will readily appreciate not only the phenomenal growth of the Nation’s Education system in all spheres but also with welcome-the objectives and philosophy of its Policy on Education.  The relevance of educational facilities, human and materials resources towards the achievement of Educational goals cannot be over emphasized. Provision of Educational facilities makes learning in the school system more productive and meaningful.
This is realized when there are qualified teachers to handle specific subject and availability of required equipment for the various science and technical subject that makes Education more practical and involves the psychomotor domains in their educational pursuit. Unfortunately, however inspite of the huge investments in education system. Most of the old and new schools are facing “resources crisis”. There are insufficient, inefficient and unstable personnel. Resources for the school, building, equipment materials are handling readily, available.   The  learning  programme  is   being
jeopardized by the phenomenal and this subsequently leads the yearly declining in the pupils performance in-their final examination.
What actually are responsible for the yearly declines are the basic motives behind this study which has not gained much attention by the Educational reaches in the past years.
Statement of the Problems      
The educational facilities that has to do with textbooks, physical structures, library facilities and the financing primary education has great impact on the performances of the pupils in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Classrooms are lacking where there is congestion in the room where just 40% of pupils can assimilate what the teacher is saying, it affect pupils performance. Textbooks that pupils can consult for more information are insufficient, this also affects pupils performance. Also library which is the central unit of any academic environment is not adequately equipped in our primary schools, this may affect the performance of the pupils.
 
Purpose of the Study
The objectives of this research is to specifically bring out the impacts of educational resources on students performance in our primary schools in Ikere-Ekiti. With a view of finding out ways of making the teaching learning process in Nigeria Primary schools yielding better result.
This study is therefore designed to ,

  1. Examine the supply of facilities / resources as the necessary criterion for the achievement of effective learning.
  2. Find out if there are adequate provisions of learning resource in the primary schools
  • To identify sources of educational resources that may influence the performance rate of the pupils in the primary schools in Ikere-Ekiti

Research questions

  1. Is the any relationship between educational facilities and pupils academic performance
  2. Is there any relationship between personnel quality and pupil academic performance
  • Is there any relationship between library facilities and pupils academic performance

Research Hypothesis
Based on the above stated problems, the following hypothesis were formulated;

  1. i) There is no significant relationship between educational facilities and pupils academic performance
  2. ii) There is no   significant relationship between personnel quality and pupils academic performance

iii)       There   is no   significant relationshipbetween provision of library facilities and pupils academic performance
 
Significance Of The study
The study is to investigate educational facilities and pupils performance in Ikere Local Government
It is believed that the study will also investigate if adequate educational facilities could affect pupils academic performance and if enough provision of personnel and dedication could lead to great pupils academic achievement. Also if the provision of library facilities could enhance pupils as achievement in Ikere Local Government of Ekiti State.
 
Delimitation of the Study
This study focused attention on the availabilities of facilities and how they affect the overall performance of the pupils in Ekiti State,Ikere-Ekiti as a case studyThe study concentrates on few selected primary school in Ikere Local Government.
 
Definition of terms
EDUCATION FACILITIES; these are the essential .resources that are needed for the affective operation and maintenance of any institution of learning it include both personal and materials resources.
PERSONNEL: In this study, personnel is referring to as the staff, teacher employed in the school, and any person that can facilitate effective teaching and improve teaching and learning.
EDUCATION: This is the process of preparing people for future and to become useful in the society and the nation as a whole
FACILITIES: These refers to provision of adequate classroom building, furniture materials, instructional materials etc for effective teaching.
