The study focuses on the impact of banks recapitalization on the Nigerian economy spanned through 1980-2011. It revolves round the happenings in the banking industry pre-recapitalization, and how the recapitalization exercise has affected the banking industry. To achieve the objectives of this study, quantitative data was gotten from secondary sources, the Ordinary Least Square technique of regression analysis was used to estimate the parameters of the model. In the course of this study, it was observed that a significant relationship exists between profit of banks and recapitalization which is in line with our apriori expectation. As a result of the findings, recommendations were made; and some of them are; The central bank of Nigeria (CBN) should make sure that all banks have good management (input), they are to select bank executives at the directorate level and their selections should be based on good track records and sequential growth phase through the ranks as some of the imperatives. Central Bank of Nigeria should ensure that bank management/managers apply customer deposit for worthwhile projects instead of using it for prestige. Finally, the government should provide and enabling environment and also control interest on credit in the short term to enable customers such as corporate bodies, manufacturers and industrialist obtain loans in order to stimulate economic growth.
