THE ROLE OF TRADITIONAL RULES IN DEMOCRATIZATION PROCESS.
A CASE STUDY OF ONDO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ONDO-STATE
Thgis research work was designed to examine the role of traditional rulers in democratization process and making use of ondo west local government area of ondo state as a case study.
However the study looks at the role of traditional rulers as spelt out in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria the role of traditional rulers in the pre-colonial and colonial periods in Nigeria and their role in democratization and how the traditional rulers dabbled into politics. It is therefore sadden to see some traditional rulers who are custodian of traditions involving in politics and preparations of policies which are not in the interest of the people and there by favouring a certain political party or a particular candidate during election.

- BACKGROUND TO THE PROBLEMS
In the past, traditional rulers who by virtue of their ancestry occupy the throne or stool of an area seen as the overall heads in the society and are respected by the people in the community and this traditional ruler were otherwise known as paramount rulers who selected from the royal family by the kingmakers.
The traditional rulers, as it is all known are having some constitutional roles which they perform for the effective administration of their domain. Also, it is generally accepted that the traditional rulers are not to be actively involved in politics. It is therefore sadden to see some traditional rulers involving in politics and perpetration of policies which are not in the interest of the people.
